What is web development?

As the term implies web development is developing what you see on the web. In other words, the process of developing or building websites is known as web development.

Today, almost everyone has access to the internet. People prefer to manage their daily tasks online, be it a banking transaction or ordering daily essentials for your household, the web is everywhere.

The person who is responsible to develop a website is called a web developer. HTML, CSS, and Javascript are the basic web development technologies every developer must know.

Types of web development

Web development is of two types: Front-end and Back-end development. Let’s have a look.

Types of web development

The visible part of the web or website which the user sees and interacts with is known as the front-end of the website. The process involved is called front-end development.

The person responsible for designing the front-end is a front-end developer.

Basic technologies used are HTML (HyperText markup language), CSS (Cascading Stylesheet), Javascript, and other front-end frameworks like React, Vue, and so on.

The back-end is the Business logic behind the web through which the site is functioning or working properly. This process is called back-end development.

Back-end developers are responsible for writing the backend code.

Popular programming languages used are PHP, Python, Java, NodeJS, and so on.

A person who handles both the front-end and back-end of a website is known as a Full-stack developer.

Now, Apart from designing the front-end or back-end of the site, a developer is also responsible for making responsive web design (RWD) for its online users, providing them a great web experience on every device they use.

Today, People prefer to use their smartphones for browsing the web rather than a pc or a desktop and that leads us to the mobile-first approach. Websites are designed taking into consideration how they look on a standard mobile device.

To effectively implement RWD for a website, many advanced techniques have been introduced, various new-age frameworks and libraries are developed to cope up with the needs of a modern user.

Conclusion

IT has come a long way. Earlier there were websites of static web pages only where the content was static for every user but, today we are in the era of dynamic web. The Mobile-first approach has been adopted and major developments are happening every day to cope up with the increasing demand for the web.

As we all can see how the internet is growing day by day, people having the right skills can expect a promising career in the web development industry.
